What to expect when you come to see us
Your Initial Appointment
Your initial appointment at Dizzy Day Clinics will involve a comprehensive assessment of your problem by a physiotherapist experienced in the assessment and treatment of dizziness and balance issues.
We use state of the art technology (infra-red video goggles) to assist us in our assessment of the vestibular system.
Our Approach
Our approach is typically to develop a customised program of vestibular exercises for each individual that are designed to re-calibrate the balance system. A typical vestibular rehabilitation program may include:
- specific exercises to reduce dizziness
- eye-head coordination exercises
- balance exercises
- fitness training
- education about specific vestibular conditions and how to best manage them
Review Appointments
Once the vestibular program has been developed, you will need to continue doing the exercises on a daily basis until the next appointment.
At subsequent review appointments, your physiotherapist will assess your progress and your vestibular rehabilitation program will be updated as required.
The number of appointments you will need to have at Dizzy Day Clinics will vary depending upon the individual and you can discuss this with your physiotherapist.
Assessment and Treatment of BPPV
An additional part of our physiotherapy program is the assessment and treatment of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
This is a very specific vestibular problem that causes symptoms of vertigo that are provoked by rolling over in bed, sitting up in the morning and tilting the head back.
We specialise in the assessment of BPPV and use a range of treatment techniques to manage this condition.
This type of approach can be enormously successful in treating the symptoms of BPPV.
